What Do I Need to Pack in My Diaper Bag?

When it comes to deciding what things to pack in your diaper bag, it is not uncommon to forget an item or two.

To help ensure you’re fully prepared for a trip out with your little one, we have put together this comprehensive checklist covering everything you are likely to need when you are out and about.

We recommend printing it out and having it with easy access, so that it is easy to glance at while you are packing your diaper bag.

 

Newborn diaper bag essentials

  • Diapers (about 1 to 2 for every two hours)
  • Wipes
  • Diaper rash cream
  • Portable changing pad
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Wet bag or plastic bag for soiled diapers/clothes
  • Change of clothes, with socks/booties (prepare a couple of sets for longer trips) – onesies/body suits can be nice and compact
  • Burp clothes
  • Blanket (swaddle blanket/receiving blanket)
  • Pacifier
  • Pacifier clip
  • Toy (s) (rattle, teether, small electronic toy, baby book, etc.)
  • Nursing Cover
  • Baby bottles and breastmilk or formula (ensure there is enough for the duration of your trip)

  • Snacks
  • Sippy cup with water
  • Eating utensils
  • Toys/Children Books

 

Items to Pack for Yourself

  • Wallet
  • Keys

  • Water bottle

Additional items to consider and that are sometimes forgotten to be packed

  • First Aid Kit
  • Thermometer
  • Any necessary medicine
  • Nursing pads
  • Breast pump (manual, automatic)
  • Ice pack
  • Nipple cream
  • Insulated bottle with water for formula
  • Baby wrap or carrier
  • Surface Sanitizing wipes
  • Cleaning wipes (Quick clean breast pump cleaning wipes, pacifier cleaning wipes, baby bottle cleaning wipes, as needed); or, a small container of baby bottle soap in case you need to clean a baby bottle or pacifier on the go 

 

Seasonal items to carry when needed

  • Sun hat
  • Warm hat / mittens
  • Sunscreen (consult doctor)
